Mobile Site Comparison - Rebekah Ralph

Bad Site

A website for the Covington Family dental office.

URL:

Finding content

I was able to eventually find the content that I was looking for on the page. However the information was small and difficult to see.

Clarity of text, images and media

The little bit of text was clear except it was small. There wasn't a difference between the heading and body copy except for a small difference in size. It would have been better for the body copy to be in an Oldstyle font to show difference. There were a few small graphics in the center but it was hard to see them without enlarging the screen. There was also some tree branches that seemed to have nothing to do with anything else on the page.

Navigation

Navigation was a difficult part with this website on my phone. There was a small bar at the very top and more details navigation at the bottom. But again in was small font and hard to click on the right link without enlarging the screen size which is very inconvient. At least the back button on my phone worked. Unlike another sight that I visited which didn't.

Colors and layout

The colors were ok. Calming for a dental office. It was the layout that I didn't particularly like for a mobile device. The telephone number to contact the office should be large and on the top of the page rather than be buried inside of a bunch of text like address. The links should be bigger. Rather than have the main portion of the home page be a paragraph about a doctor, it should focus more on the information the user wants like contact information and let the paragraph about the doctor be in a sub heading under meet the Doctor.

Likes and dislikes

Over all I wasn't impressed with the site. The colors were nice, but it didn't seem to be mobile friendly like other dentist's sites that I visited. To begin with, it was too small. I don't want to have to enlarge the screen to look at something on my phone which closer to my eyes than a monitor would be. As a prospective patient I would wonder about an office with a site like this one. I feel that they could do a lot beter and have a nicer looking site. If they are willing to cut corners with the website, are they going to cut corners with my dental health. I would be asking myself this question.

Good Site

A website for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Finding content

I was able to find the content that I was looking for on the page easily and intuitively.

Clarity of text, images and media

The images on the screen were clear and of a good size to be viewed. The font changed with a nice mixture of serif and sans serif font depending upon if was a link or the heading of an article or video.

Navigation

Navigation was so easy There were three lines to indicate links as well as icons for indivual accounts After the first section there was a quick links list to get to something more specific than the broader links at the top. The home button showed up at the top of individual sections to take you back to the home page after looking at something rather than needing to push the back button but that was an option too.

Colors and layout

The colors were simple and uncluttered. Good use of white space. The color scheme was blue and white, with a small bit of black and darker blue. Very calming and tasteful. There was good use of repitition with the font colors and font choices. The use of bright clear photos added to the contrast of the website but everything had good alignment.

Likes and dislikes

I really liked this website viewed on my phone. It was easy to view and was very mobile friendly. I would imagine that a lot of time and effort goes into making this website mobile friendly due to the nature of getting information for it while in Sunday School with no computer infront of the viewer. I like that it is large and easy to see fonts and images. I don't have to make my screen larger to view the content. I also like its search feature on the home page to help find answers to questions. It definately gives the user the tools they need when viewing the site even when in mobile view.
